THE GRAPEVINE

We just broke ground on Monday, May 24, for the new Show Room at the winery! We are anticipating our project to be competed by early Fall. Check back periodically for updates and click on the Photo Gallery tab to see pictures of our progress.

SIMPLIFY WITH WINE
written by Lori Kuczala

I am a stay at home mom with two young boys, ages two and three. They are all energy. I truly believe if this force could be harnessed, the energy concerns of our world would be resolved-(that is a whole other discussion). I am also part owner of Benigna’s Creek Vineyard and Winery, which is a family-owned winery located in Klingerstown, PA.

I live south of Reading and make the drive to Klingerstown with the boys pretty regularly. Over the Bethel and Mahantongo Mountains, past all the farmlands, our conversations are endless. The boys recognize irrigation systems, combine tractors, plows, coal breakers, along with any farm animal that might be out grazing. The ultimate destination, the winery and vineyard, to see what might be happening for the day. For as much as toddlers can comprehend, the boys understand the grapes grow in the vineyard, are pressed into juice by the ‘presser’, stored in a big tank, bottled into wine, and sold in the winery.

This past harvest was the first harvest the boys ‘helped’ with. Standing on lugger boxes to reach the grapes, riding the tractor through the vineyard, eating lunch on the deck of the winery with Uncle Rick, Uncle Mike, Grammy and Pappy, exhausting everyone with their unending questions/observations are truly priceless memories.

The beauty of this opportunity, it is not limited to just my children. I know I can speak for Benigna’s Creek (and hopefully most of PA wineries), families are always welcome. Take a day, drive to the winery, take a walk in the vineyard, tour the wine cellar, bring a picnic lunch, talk about what you see along the way - spend the day with your family. You’ll be amazed at not only how much you learn about wine making, but also about each other.

Life really can be that simple.
